I'm going 8-4 (5-3) with losses to Miss State, Clemson, UNC and swing games on the road against Miami/BC/WF. I believe this is the harder schedule layout for State because the swing games are all on the road. Yes we have a better chance of getting an upset against Clemson or UNC because of the home crowd, but we're more likely to lose swing games. This is a 6-6 schedule given where NC State has historically been, but I also think the league's pretty bad.

I don't think that the ACC is good enough to get two teams in the playoff, which will bump the bowls "down." This means a more favorable match up (relative to NC State's chances at a W) and a win.

But did you really have to include "natty title" as post season option 🤣

Rye just beware to NOT go back and edit original post at any time because there is a bug in our software that will basically delete the poll if you make any changes!!!

8-4 with a bowl win! Go Pack!

Thanks for reminder about "an edit deletes the poll." I had that happen once during basketball season.

Went with 8-4 (6-2) with 2nd in the Atlantic and a bowl win with a top 25 ranking...I'll go out on a limb and further predict that the local/national media still slobber all over Mack and the Holes...

  • SamIamSamIam Posts: 742

With the pre season ranking already giving merit to teams yet to play a down UNC is now and likely will be set up for success as long as Mack and the boys are sexy to the media. An previous 8-4 team has been given the keys to the top 10, all they have to do is not run off the road too much. State will have to be 4-0 before we break the top 25, loss after and we'll be out quick.

I think we'll beat the holes but lose to Wake, typical season expectations for me. Excited none the less.

    Grey must have voted ;-)

I understand why it happens but those early polls really skew things and not in a good way. Sure you can argue that "by the end the best teams have risen to the top" and "the BCS standings (or whatever they call them now) don't come out until much later" but the earlier and longer a team is in the polls (even if they slip out), the more momentum they build.

I despite UNC but they made a good hire in Mack, paired it with a generational QB and have a lot of momentum...... It took all of two seasons to blow past State (reminds me of Roy and Sendek).

Dang someone predicted 1-7 ACC record... hope that was a bit of facetiousness. If we go 1-7 with a team like ours in this conference then move over SEC cause the ACC is the ultimate in that case!

  • SamIamSamIam Posts: 742

jp if we go 1-7 I'd scream from the mountain top to ask into Conf. USA or American.

That was me. For the same reason that when I wager, I wager against the Pack. If it comes to pass, at least I'm right (or get paid). And if it doesn't, well, that means the Pack did better than I thought (or won the game.)

I'll own that. I like the qb and the D for the most part.

    7-5 (4-4), 3rd ATL, NIT Bowl Loss

    /this is me being optimistic

Looks like in general we have pretty high expectations for this year.

  • RickRick Posts: 3,072PFN Referee

I think this is exactly what I predicted but I know absolutely nothing about football.

  • RickRick Posts: 3,072PFN Referee

Just busting chops. I hope you are right. I tend to look at coaching to predict things. For example, I would predict the women will be top 3 in the ACC for the next 5 years. Maybe we miss a year but I doubt it.

And DD has been middle of the road for the most part. So I would predict 7-5 or so for the next 5 years and I am pretty sure I would be right far more than wrong.

Somebody on The Athletic summed up NC State football perfectly. See wherever the predictions are on the "good" or "bad" side of 7-5. Whenever we have no expectations, we overperform. When we have expectations, we shit our pants.

I mean...I wanted to disagree. But how could I, in good faith?

    The missing poll question

Will NC State win a game against an opponent with a better body of work this year?

This is what the program has lacked and why we are perpetually stuck between 6-6 and 8-4

  • ryebreadryebread Posts: 3,032PFN Referee

Yeah I did miss that one. “Will NC State beat a team that finishes the year in the top 25?” I would say no.

I totally get (and almost marked) 7-5 due to the schedule (and the fact that most of the swing games are on the road), but think we’ve got to do better given better QB play. I could see us pulling an upset on UNC, losing two of the swing games and still finishing 8-4.

I use to religously follow and rarely post on the old site. When the old site went dead I figured everyone either passed away or gave up on the pack.

I'm glad I found yall! During my years away I tried to follow another pack blog, but it turned out to be socialist themed political site.

Anyhow, I think we go 7-5 (4-4). We will most likely lose to a mediocre team in a mediocre meaningless bowl game. I wish I would think more positive but I just can't deal with the failure year after year. We need someone like CTC to at least try to sell me the dream.

I went 8 and 4. Not based on skill.

I looked this up last year but never followed up with a blog post. After much searching on my hard disk, I found my list of Doreen's best wins based on final Sagarin ranking:

    A rather Sendekian Deja Vu.

Best opportunity may be Cowbell U early in the schedule, catch 'em unaware. Heard they are ranked way higher than they should be going into the season.
