Since we don't know who our first round opponent is yet, then we won't open a thread with a game thread.  We'll later post game thread write ups in here.  This will be the spot where we'll chat about the ACC Tournament (Roo's suggestion).

For now, we'll just open with a poll.

I sure as shit ain't betting against Tony Bennett here!

As long as it isn't U*NC, I am content.  Even ok with Duke winning it, because it would piss the Holes off.

I think FSU has the best combination of depth (which is needed to win this) + coming in hot.  Unfortunately it is a defacto road game, where they aren't as good.

UVA is hot, well coached, and are hard to game plan for in a shorter turn around. I just don't think they're that good.

If you look at the analytics, Duke is the favorite. I don't know if they shoot well enough. I also sense that even though the games are in the state of NC, the "neutral" fans from other teams will pull against them.

UNC is playing home games, will have the friendly crowd/whistle, and has talent. There's your dark horse.

Louisville has the best combination of depth and talent. They won some big road games, but aren't coming in with as much momentum. That's my pick though.

If UNC wins this it'll be akin to Clark Griswold getting jelly of the month club for his holiday bonus.

    I voted for FSU.

I am thinking of using the Noles as a title winner in my office pool.  They are just so hard to match up with, for almost anyone.

Plus, would make me super happy.  Them or San Diego State.

Copied and pasted from the UNC BOTB thread.....as promised...

    ATTENTION....ALL WOLFIE FANS

The WOLF has Landed.  I have my Monaco CAMELOT Motor Home (for you oldsters, the JFK symbolism is abounding) in the 6 RV complex at the GSOC complex..  I invite all PFN members and their escorts to stop in and say Hello.  Many of you know my name and you can PM me.  If you go on a spur of the moment....just walk in and ask for the old guy with the beard that owns the Camelot....I’ll be there from Tuesday PM on.

We have great (free) feeds and we share our bounty with the security and LEO folks in our area.  We don’t ever worry about security....

Seriously, if you come up....stop in.  You can contact Troll at his Administration email as I am giving him permission to give you my name....

We are right at the bottom of the walkway ramp from the main parking lot at the main entrance.  Come on in....I need some RED as our crowd tends to be BLUE....but they are even MORE blue this year....if you get my drift.  Been doing this since 2009 or so and we have caravaned since 2007.

    GO PACK

    Field Report
i have a bird’s eye view of the 4 inbound lanes for the main parking....off Gate City Blvd (used to be Coliseum Drive)....the one you head north on off I40 @ 4 Sessons Mall.  I can also look right up the ramp.  They have 2 lanes open (2 closed) and a steady stream of traffic.  Very few scalpers on the ramp.  They will wait until the UNC game.

I just counted about 75 fans going up the ramp.  Since it is GA, folks getting in early.  Our RaM mates in the complex are getting ready to head in.  Don’t have any idea how it will look on TV or if the traffic will continue.   Lots of black and gold.  The VT fans stand out like highway workers.

There was one ad on the GSO CL for $4 tickets.  You met the scalper’s guy in the PL.  he actually had a BBB rating.  Don’t know if it was a scam or not.  Face is $48 each.

More later....  many folks in the RV area bummed out that the local OTA station (Ch 2...WFMY?) is not carrying it and that ESPN has it locked up.

My DTHD receivers were shut off as we did not use the MH for over a year.  I am using my iPad as a hot spot (unlimited VZ data) and then streaming on my laptop to the big den TV.  Also have my XM receiver on the ACC channels if the game gets boring.

took a call and just came back.  Still folks going up....but slowed down on incoming cars.

I'm enjoying the Kraut Red Bulls vivisecting Jose Mourinho on live teevee.  Switch to ACCN at the half!

Looking like the Panthers. We were very lucky to beat them at our place. Not sure we’ll be that lucky tomorrow

We also sleepwalked through that Pitt game.  More about how WE play than the opponent.

They also had a guy turn an ankle a few minutes ago, and not really a deep team.  Pack should overwhelm them.

Did he really. Sounds like a dumb thing to say. That's the kind of thing you say before a team beats you by 27. But the way our season's gone, we'll prob lose by 6. Note:  I hope we crush em.

Next up for State is Pitt.  Pitt pulled away in the second half for a fairly easy win in what was their highest scoring game since they beat Canisius in December.  Did the Pitt offense “wake” up, or was Manning’s team as disinteresting in playing defense against the Panthers as they were against NC State?  I am pretty sure it is the latter, and that 18 turnovers by Wake Forest didn’t help their cause either.

Regardless of what today’s game suggests, Pitt is still the offensively challenged team they were a couple of weeks back. They’re also still smaller than State.

The game plan for State seems obvious:
    - This is effectively an elimination game for NC State.  Lose this one and there are no more games that really matter.  The Pack has to treat it as such. A focused and high effort start would go a long ways.
    - We need good Markell.  That isn’t necessarily scoring first MJ, but it is “don’t turn it over” Markell.
    - Bates with another big game.  Pound the ball inside and wear the Panthers out.  The offense needs to be inside out as that is where the Pack has a big advantage.
    - On defense funnel drivers towards Manny and do not foul.  Play some zone. Pitt will lay some bricks, particularly if their legs are a little tired..
    - Use the bench. State has to win two games in the ACC tournament.  To have a shot against Duke, we cannot come in gassed. KK has to think of this a bit like managing pitchers in baseball. We cannot use them all up tomorrow.

KenPom likes the Pack by 4 and gives State a 66% chance of winning.  I tend to agree.
