STRANGER THINGS, part 3....

The Ghosts on the South Smoking Porch are sipping their bourbon and scotch, lighting up Luckies, Chesterfields and Camels, while shaking their heads in disbelief....

2020 ACCT Seeds....

While that's arguably the most Fugly (worse) season ever, most all the kids under 45  today see it are all things as relative.... but the Ghosts know better....

The Nut of that is simply would you rather Beat the Holes or Be the Holes ???

Not that I want to wish bad things on people, but may unx have another forty years of the same!  I could pop some champagne for that outcome.

The Cheaters demise is why the pundits say the ACC is down this year.

Last season that only ONE Big Four side made the Dance?  1976.  The 2nd year multiple teams from same league were eligible.

    BofB,

Actually NOPE.  Matt Doughboy chas the record.  His 2001 season was 29% wins...  that eclipses Deans first year (mid 40’s) and all the other folks all the way back to the 1910’s.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_North_Carolina_Tar_Heels_men%27s_basketball_seasons

I didn’t bother to do a spreadsheet.  Here is the best summation....but I don’t think the young whipper snappers at TDH did one either.  Their definition of ancient times is a few decades AFTER you were born....

    https://www.dailytarheel.com/article/2020/02/unc-basketball-worst-season-since-context

The ONE silver lining in all this....

We attended the WACCT yesterday and set up our 6 RV (5 MH & a 5W) conclave at the south entrance (the main one with the ramp) of the GSOC.

We have several Rams with us.  I dutifully took their FACE VALUE payment for the play in game tickets that I did not plan to use.  Based on my past 13 years of attending most of the ACCT in various venues in and out of NC, 5 minutes after the tip-off.....I can purchase them back for less than 20% of what I got yesterday.  That will fund a few tickets later in the week for my GS.

i was waiting for Rye to do the ACCT thread.  So here is a post that I will make again...

    BUT....ATTENTION....ALL WOLFIE FANS

The WOLF has Landed.  I have my Monaco CAMELOT (for you oldsters, the JFK symbolism is abounding) in the 6 RV complex.  I invite all PFN members and their escorts to stop in and say Hello.  Many of you know my name and you can PM me.  If you go on a spur of the moment....just walk in and ask for the old guy with the beard that owns the Camelot....I’ll be there from Tuesday PM on.

We have great (free) feeds and we share our bounty with the security and LEO folks in our area.  We don’t ever worry about security....

Seriously, if you come up....stop in.  You can contact Troll at his Administration email as I am giving him permission to give you my name....

    GO PACK

Just wondering out loud.  Was there some sort of self sanction put on the unx program?  Or is this just a very bad season for them?

There was a mutiny.  The super stars went to the pitiful excuse of an AD, Dickie Doolittle Badour.  They were not being treated like royalty.  Doughboy Brad did not have the Alum connections for their fancy Land Rovers and was not getting their parking tickets fixed....he may even have hinted at goin’ to class.  BLASPHEMOUS, I say.  The Alums and Ex Players were mad.  Brad had fired or made disparaging remarks to Dean’s Ex House Mother (Rosemary?).  Dean pitched a hissy fit and was back up to 2 packs per day.

He got mad.  Stormed out of his VIP digs in the UNC MBB HQ Complex.  He then took his rings, trophies, awards, his MJ card collection and such and moved into a janitor’s closet in the basement.

Ye think I jest.  My Ex (thank God) UNC Grad SIL was a UPS supervisor.  If you want to know what is going on in a wide open office where the UPS man can deliver packages personally (purportedly some packages were marked personal and confidential and contained pictures of some guy named Ben who was a womanizer and flew a Kite in thunderstorms)....

The UPS guys had been on that route for years and were on a first name basis.  They told tales of discontent.

UNC MBB was so bad that my wife’s boss could not even give away the 10 or so HoseDome prime tickets he had.  I KNOW the year exactly.  State was playing at the HoseDome and I was in Mexico on assignment.  My wife had 6 of the tickets and took our STATE brood.  My daughter was PG with my GS....it was the spring of 2003 as he came into my world on April 18.  My daughter looked around at all the UNC blue and the crowd and said....I am NOT a going to let my baby boy grow up to be a UNC fan or student.

That about sums it up,  Dean started to work on ORW and the rest is history....

My Uncle Buddy was in that golf threesome with Dean and Ol' Roy.  To this day, he hasn't told a soul about what was said, even to his wife (my mom's sister).
  • B'rer 'Roo...

You may have missed the target here...

The Opening post was about the BIG FOUR as a whole, not the Holes specifically...

That said, the HOLES have led the way down into the abyss, in more ways than one...

Try to hit the target again, please...

They lost four starters and their sixth man (Johnson, Maye, Williams, White and Little). The grad transfers they have tried to replace them with stink. They’ve also been bitten by the injury bug - sort of a perfect storm.

Yeah, and they also dogged it a lot of games.  They played very hard against Duke and State.  Had they given that effort in other games they would have won more.  Their attrition really wasn’t worse than State’s.

Rye, agreed.  You can't be ahead at the 30-35 of that many games, then choke, and put it all on things out of their control.

I am glad they get to play in the Les Robinson Invitational today.

To the post I think ewnc comes back next year pretty damn strong, wake with Danny will be garbage yet again, Duke will be as good as they always are and the pack will be the little train that can't.  Florida State and UVA have built programs with depth, skill, well developed veteran athletes, same will be said about tha ville.  Me believes the tides have begun to shift.

    - UNC: 4 McDonald's AA's coming in next year. They're going to be fine.  I hate them and wish it weren't the case, but this is but a speed bump.
    - Duke: They're going to ride the "one and done" train as long as they can prop coach K up on the sideline. Once you start down that path, it is a bit hard to change.
    - WF: Maybe they get a new coach. Maybe they don't. The contract looks like a challenge.
    - State: I think we'll be better, though we won't really know until we roll the ball out in the fall.  I have heard that one of our recruits isn't coming, as rumors of early departures.

  • My take on UNC is that Roy Williams insists on running his "system"...that system is complicated, and takes players several years to completely learn.  For the last couple of years, his more talented players have been one-and-dones, so they never totally learn that system.  Hence why UNC is not doing as well.  I suspect it will get worse, despite the fact that he has 4 burger boys...they will all leave after one year, so they never completely buy into the system.

Interesting bit of trivia - Les Robinson never won a LRI matchup.

Manning is definitely out in a matter of hours/days.

Sadly, I remember it all to well

As for the holes in this year's tournament, I think they win 2 games or none.  Hoping for none!

It will seemingly cost WF $$$ to make that happen.  The smartest thing Manning has done while at Wake is sign that contract.

ORW has complained that SWOFF was an dad gummed @$$hole for NOT calling it off last night.  He would NOT have had that disastorous loss on his record.

What was the FINAL score?  We left the GSOC at halftime....as did about half the Light Blue fans.

The Orange had 81. The Cheating Blues scored 53.

Brooks interestingly had 3 fouls.  He had none in UNC’s opening night win.

They also shot 2/16 from three. I knew they couldn’t shoot.  The way to play them was inside out or zone.  I hope KK watched that game.

UNC got down and quit. They dogged it a lot this year.  The only games they really got up for (once they knew they were bad) were State and Duke.
