To quote George Eastman’s final “note” (for you younger whipper snappers, he was the EASTMAN of Eastman Kodak)....

    To my Friends,

    My work here is done.

    Why wait?

    GE

Obviously she considered her work done....she DID get hired as a Chancellor, which is more than she got at Dartmouth, where she was “interim”....TWICE...

It would be foolish and futile to speculate on her departure without violating one of the prime tenets of this site.

She be gone, in a blaze of glory, which ironically, created the discussions that lead to the policy here.

Read the various comments on WRAL for better insight....

No idea who will replace her and who will inherit her closet full of “I care” ribbons.

NOW, maybe one day she looked at her self in the mirror and DID see the resemblance of her persona to her moniker, Little Miss Blue Smurfette....and then screamed....I Friggin’ HATE Light Blue....…

    Comment of the Year......so far....LOL !!
  • This is worth reading....

With that I'll leave you to your own conclusions....

And YES... it has something to do with Ms. Folt's abrupt resignation....

    Bye...

OK, so what's "one of the prime tenets of the site"? Some of us need to know what that is so we don't violate it by accident!
  • Sounds like she ran into a buzz saw with her decision on the Silent Sam issue.  Probably the right move for her if she felt she made a good decision.  You can't fight city hall. You either support your management or move on. I've had to do that several times in my professional life.

    No POLITICAL DISCUSSION

There was a Silent Sam discussion and it morphed into political commentary

    Troll’s site. His prerogative.

If if you look at the makeup of the UNC BOG, it is an appointed group from the General Assembly.  It reflects the political makeup of the NCGA....When the NCGA was of the other party, same deal

IMHO, the various UNC member school’s Administration PROBABLY align more with the past UNC BOG than the present

The UNC BOG has not been pleased with Folt and the CHPD and their actions.  Folt’s parting shot and the razing of any remnants of the statue last night was not “cleared” in advance

Again, IMHO, the UNC CH recommendations to host the statue in a prominent location with a multimillion $$ building and a large annual security cost probably lead to the UNC BOG to re-evaluate their opinion of Chancellor Folt.

I still have that image of her at some press conference/announcement 8 weeks or so ago when they were announcing to a room of students the 'solution' was a special $5m building to house it in 'as a historical artifact' then a female student (not to characterize people by their birth gender.....) that was 6" taller than her getting in her face and screaming at her to the cheers of the room full of student.
I can imagine at that moment she was thinking 'screw this! I'm just repeating the BOT decision and I'M the one getting screeched at over a decision that wasn't mine and that I know the BOG would never support (after all, who decided to build a $5.4M thing without the BOG's approval in the 1st place?!) in the 1st place, I'm outta here!'
I told Mrs GC at the time that there is an entire generation that is learning from the media, from the news, etc that the way to handle people you disagree with is intimidate and shout them down in the most public and personal way.
Good luck with that in the private sector..... BTW are these the same people who 'Ghost' their employers and just don't show up one day rather than giving a notice?

Oh and Roo, not political commentary, just sharing a recollection and asking a question, politically neutral.

Still looking for an answer Roo; is it "NO! political discussion!"?

I did not originally post this with any political intentions-just think that any turmoil/bad press at that diploma mill to our west is a good thing...

    GC,

I did my level best to keep the discussion "flowing" and not even APOLITICAL....

The circumstances are what they are and there are many news outlets that are espousing opinions, mixed with some facts, and there are also many individuals that are commenting.....

You and I are reviewing the actions of an individual based on their work environment.

The folks that are commenting, with political overtones, on some of the news sites are heartily supportive of the UNC BOG's "message" in that her actions were not congruent with theirs.....but everyone supports Student (as well as staff and faculty) SAFETY...

Silent Sam will not go gently into that good night.....or at least, in a positive and non-political viewpoint, that is my take on it....

Political candidates, administrators, staff, basketball coaches, etc. have to deal with notoriety and public opinion.....A certain EX NCSU HBBC could expound on that.  Therefore, they have to assess their effectivity....and whether they want to continue in said role...

I recall that a certain EX NC Female Governor was making a presentation or being introduced in the Dean Dome....which should have been, based on her political affiliation, a "friendly" crowd.  She was NOT treated nicely....in that she was booed and heckled WORSE than the opposing HBBC earlier when introduced.

SOME of her close allies and associates report, off the record of course, that she decided on the way back to the Mansion that she would not seek that position again and bid NC and her constituents farewell and some "not so nice" wishes about their future happiness.

Did Little Miss Blue Smurfette get that feeling, as you stated?  Did she get that "Come to a closed door meeting and bring your attorney/agent call?  Did the meeting and discussion get out of hand and harsh words and perhaps "Threats" were issued?

Have NO idea....but the old rule of thumb.....NEVER, EVER give your boss (or a criminal carjacking you) an ULTIMATUM or an "If you do NOT do THIS.....I will then be forced to.." statement unless you FULLY intend to take such action (Resigning or using deadly force to protect your possessions....)...

Who knows.....There ARE some UNC BOG members that will "discuss over cocktails" certain typically private matters.  It will be interesting to see what info flows as the adult beverages are consumed....

EXTRYYYYY.    EXTRYYYYYYYY.  READ ALL ABOUT IT!!!

    https://www.wral.com/folt-out-as-unc-ch-chancellor-by-end-of-january/18126020/

Well, that clears up a few things.....sort of like when the Division President was escorted off premises and I had to change all the locks and the IT boys changed the passwords and wiped the servers clean of his personal and company information

In the olden, non PC days, we would say....

Carol, don’t let the door knob impact your posterior, otherwise it will have to be surgically removed.....

Don't worryyyyyyy, I'm sure her contracts pays her through the academic year at least, if not much longer.
They'll probably put her on NCSU's payroll.

But one thing, its shows that the BOT and BOG are some "good ole boys and gals" in the bad sense!
Obviously the 'suits' want to keep the thing in some form and everyone else doesn't.
Not a surprise, I always called hoops at unx modern day servant-hood, basically a bunch of rich people using disadvantaged people for their bidding, pleasure, and entertainment.
  • ^ It's much more complex than that...  But we've have to have a 'political discussion' to get into the details...

    Back to group texting...

The real question is  "who cares?"  I seem to remember that State showed a chancellor the door for giving the governor's wife a no work job.

I DO BECAUSE I WANT ONE OF THOSE JOBS!

The real question is  "who cares?"  I seem to remember that State showed a chancellor the door for giving the governor's wife a no work job.
Correct.  The Governor colluded with Chancellor Oblinger, per articles....not MY political speculation or opinion, and the Governor's bedmate was making $170K for basically a job that was "Cobbled up" by then Chancellor Oblinger and the emails between Gov and Chanc were "very clear and incriminating" according to the article....It was from the N&O site, who hath NO love for NCSU and will even throw candidates with whom they agree under the bus if there is collateral damage to institutions that they dislike or even their "own".

I TOO, as GC said, would like a job where I had nothing, basically, to do and was receiving a nice compensation....

I DID receive some "OTR" comments from a friend of some of the UNC BOG.  The "Folt has resigned" fiasco was NOT on anyone's radar 2 days before it erupted....nor was the "tantrum" that created the midnight grounds work.  SO....somebody got on SOMEBODY's LAST NERVE....things were said.....threats such as "You CAN'T do THAT....Oh YES we CAN.....If you DO, then I (we) WILL....and it sort of got messy....

That was the general "interpretation" of the scenario and the official news releases and comments and actions after Monday PMd activites....which substantiated a rift....

If there is a search committee, I will put in a proposal for ONLY $250,000 to find a suitable candidate and NLF is really high (the only one if truth be known) on MY list.

What would REALLY be a kick in the privates.....Chancellor Woodson has been the "Call Randy about your little issue with your band knealing whilst playing the SSB" or GEE, you ought to ask yourself...."What would Randy DO?".  That would be interesting....

There are reports in the various news outlets of similar circumstances, such as Gov and Chanc, at UNC involving high ranking members of the political establishment and their friends.   Finding a cushy job for a friend or relative after making a political donation is NOT unheard of.

There was ONE member (Party affiliation I do NOT recall) of the NCGA who cashed a check for several hundred $$ to his "Campaign" and the memo line read..."Jimmy Jones' Job".  SO, the contributor made certain that the legislator or his campaign KNEW why he was contributing.  Jimmy had been a LONG TIME and SUPERLATIVE employee of the home county or something like that....

BOTH sides do it....some just get "OUTED" more....

I really don't care if Folt got shown the door or ran out on her own accord. The end result is the Holes look bad no matter whether they are on the right side or wrong side of history. I prefer they stay that way.

GC, is this an alcoholic oxymoron? Jack on the rocks or Jack and water but Jack and water on the rocks?
